Auxiliary Audio Input Devices

There are several ways to add an external audio device to your vehicle

• RF - uses an FM transmitter connected to the antenna jack

• Tape adaptor - uses a wired tape for audio input

• Direct input - a device that uses a port on factory units for audio input

Advantages and disadvantages of these devices

• RF - local stations may bleed over the frequency being used, this form of adaptor has the least audio quality

• Tape adaptor - this device can be cumbersome with a wire from the adaptor to your audio device, better audio quality over RF

• Direct input - hooks to factory equipment with a direct audio input, this device has the best audio quality.

When replacing factory with aftermarket equipment, you may loose

• Speed sensor control for automatically increasing volume at higher speeds

• Door and head light chimes

• Steering wheel controls

There are aftermarket wire harnesses and other devices that will incorporate some of these controls.
